Seven Fountains farm is surrounded by several wildlife parks, one of them is Pumba Private Game Reserve.

With over 6,500 hectares of wilderness, Pumba Private Game Reserve boasts a diverse collection of plant and animal life. The reserve is a natural habitat for Africa’s Big Five, including lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros.

As a guest of Seven Fountains farm you can book a day safari at Pumba Private Game Reserve. From our own experience, we can share that this is a very fun day trip and activity to do during your stay with us.

The day begins

Pumba is a 15 minute drive from the Farm. For the day trip we were expected at the main gate at 09:30. Here we were greeted by their lovely staff. They prepared us for our adventurous day ahead. We were be picked up by the ranger at 10:00 am. Our trip begins! The Game Drive lasts approximately 2.5 hours and explores much of the Reserve’s pristine terrain. Here we have the chance to spot the Big 5 animals and many other animals such as giraffe, zebra, hippo, cheetah’s and many more. It is a unique experience to spot wildlife in an open safari vehicle with the ranger. The animals roam freely in the gigantic reserve, so it’s always a surprise what you come across.

The feeling of spotting animals, never knowing what could stand around the corner is unique. And then, the excitement when you lay eyes on a wild animal is something different. Being able to be so close to wildlife you normally only see on pictures or TV. The game vehicle will approach the animal slowly and for a little bit of time, you can experience what is it like to step into the animal world. With big animals like lions, elephants or giraffes within a few meters of you, you can hear them breathe, roar or trumpeting. Their amazing size, strength and speed. The ranger told us lots of interesting facts about all the animals we’ve encountered. So, besides spotting incredible animals, we also got a little smarter while driving around.

White lions

When on a game drive at Pumba we hoped to find the pack of white lions. Pumba has 6 of these rare lions, 4 females and 2 big males. Their white fur and deep blue eyes makes them stand out. But they surprisingly blend well with their surroundings. Encountering these incredible lions is a highlight on the drive.

Our head full with all the wildlife impressions of the day, we stopped at the lodge for a delicious 3-course lunch with a beautiful view over the reserve, here we were still able to spot animals while we were eating. After we finished with the lunch, we were driven back to the gate. Along the way we of course had the chance to spot more animals. The trip ended around 3 pm.

Visiting Pumba is a perfect way to explore the beautiful nature and wildlife that the Eastern Cape has to offer. Visit Seven Fountains Farm and come see for yourself!
